Michael J. Long is a founding partner of Long & DiPietro, LLP and has practiced school law since 1980. Attorney Long is Of Counsel to the firm and is not involved in day-to-day operations.
In his decades of experience, Attorney Long has represented numerous Massachusetts school districts as general, labor, and special education counsel and has rendered services as special counsel for many other public employers.
He served as general counsel to the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents (M.A.S.S.) for many years, rendering advice on a wide range of education law topics. In 2022 he was appointed to represent M.A.S.S. on the Special Education Advisory Board, a legislatively created body which reviews and provides feedback on operations at the Bureau of Special Education Appeals. He also was appointed to Attorney General Martha Coakley’s Commission on Bullying in Schools and in 2012 he was appointed to the Boston University School of Education Program Advisory Board, a group designated to assist the University in an assessment of the needs and mission of the University’s School of Education. Attorney. Long was the primary management representative consulted by DESE in drafting the model contract language for teacher evaluation.
Attorney Long is a 1977 cum laude graduate of Boston College and a 1980 graduate of Suffolk University Law School. He is admitted to the Massachusetts Bar, the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, and the First Circuit Court of Appeals.
